Sin is like a Killer Whale

A few weeks ago in Orlando Florida at Sea World a killer whale that weighed over 12000 lbs violently killed a trainer, and the world was shocked. This trainer was no trainee; she was a full blown expert in her field. Day after day she had fed and cared for the whale. No doubt she and the whale had an intimate walk. Each knew a great deal about the other. I must admit that I was not so surprised; by nature these killer whales, as they are nicknamed, are known for their aggressive behavior. They use their size and power to kill and destroy.

The Bible is very clear on one truth. Sin is a killer, when it is full grown it will destroy life. Adam and Eve found this out in the garden. Everyone else in the world finds this out as well, some sooner than later. Sin, is powerful like a killer whale. It is able to destroy a human life at any time. People often think they have sin under control, but the sad reality is they do not. When you live, work and play around sin don’t be surprised if it grabs you, when you least expect it, and it shakes you and won't turn you loose.  Never think you have tamed your sinful nature. Only Jesus has the power to overcome sin. Be smart, leave sin alone and surround yourself with Jesus. By doing so you can live, move and have your being in the world without being destroyed daily by sin.

Prepare Your Family for Battle

One of the really amazing things about the Word of God is how God connects it together. For example Paul the apostle admonishes husband to love their wives and for the wives to respect their husband just a few words before instructing Children to obey their parents. Then out of nowhere “BAM” He says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his might power, put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
At first glance that seems like such an abrupt change of direction, but the truth is the devil hates your family. Not only does he hate your family he knows your flesh as well. He uses whatever evil he can to attach you where it hurts, in your home.  Divide and concur; may it never be! The devil does not fight fare. He is out to kill, still and destroy.
By putting on the full armor of God families prepare for attacks from Satan.  When husbands learn how to love their wives with a God type love and when wives learn to respect their husband with a God ordained respect they will be able to stand side by side wearing the full armor of God and extinguish those flaming arrow that come from every direction. May your family be rooted in the love of God and fitted with all His armor so that you will not fail in times of trouble.

Things Don't Always Go Like We Want

Things don’t always turn out the way you want them to. It was my hope to see someone come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at our Operation Tailgate, but as far as I can see that did not happen. However the truth in God’s Word brings us much comfort. Today I am holding on to two particular verses. (1) “and we know that in all things God works for the good of those love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Our goal was to see souls saved, but end result was good Christ centered fellowship with the church family and a hand full of visitors. While that my not be the intended purpose of the event it is still a good thing. (2) “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achiever the purpose for which I sent it.” Therefore, I trust the preaching of His Word will grow in the hearts of all who heard it. My it produce a fruit of souls.

Many time we try things and they don't turn out the way we want them to, but that cant stop us from trying. We must remember God is much bigger that us and our ability. Our efforts, even if we miss the mark, are still used by God for His glory.

Duped

I've been duped. Last week I wrote in my blog that I had seen a dead bear on the side of the road. Well, I was wrong. Someone deceived me. They had skinned a boar and stuffed it full of who knows what, laid it on its back and turned its face so it looked like a bear. I must admit, they got me! I was duped, horn-swoggled, completely fooled. I hate to be fooled, but I it happens.

The Bible says Satan is the deceiver and that he masquerades as an angel of light. As a believer we must know the Word of God so that we will be less likely to be deceived. Make it your habit to read and study the Bible daily. In time you will find you are wiser and Satan and his spiritual forces of evil will have a much harder time trying to deceive you. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! I feel sooo dumb.
